Effective October 1, 2026, AxcessPointe Health System (APHS) has acquired Shelter Health Services (SHS), bringing SHS into its network to expand access to care across Mecklenburg County. The move builds on a partnership dating to 2022, through which APHS has provided medical, dental, and behavioral health services by mobile unit to residents of the Salvation Army Center of Hope.

Joining the APHS network creates a more coordinated approach to care for Center of Hope residents and the broader community. SHS patients will have stronger connections to ongoing primary care, behavioral health, dental care, and other services. APHS plans to expand SHS patient service hours from 24 to 40 hours per week and increase mobile services throughout Mecklenburg County, focusing on people in transitional living situations and underserved communities.
